Bus Drivers, Building, and Bursting and the Seams
The Board doesn't meet until next week, but there are still updates to share.
First, more bus drivers are in training! As a mom of two bus riders, I'm glad we won't be getting those 5:30 am phone calls nearly as much!
Next, if you're ever wondering what's happening with our Bond updates, you can check it out here. https://www.glcomets.net/boardofeduc.../2018-bond-proposals/
In short, the 2018 Bond is wrapping up. The final items on the list include a gym at Delta Center, the Dave and Betty Morris Center, and more classrooms at Wacousta.
"But wait!" you may be saying? "Isn't Wacousta brand new?! Why are we building classrooms already?!"
Wacousta is brand new. But GLPS is doing something that most other districts aren't... We're continuing to grow. When we built Wacousta, we built it so additional classrooms (and a potential separate cafeteria in the future) could be added without much fuss. That day came sooner than any projection would have expected. And the pinch is going to be felt down the line at Hayes and Beagle.
How does the District decide what to do? We have been continuously reviewing priorities, budget, and time. 2026 dollars don't go as far as 2018, and the district isn't immune. Here's a presentation about where we were, where we are, and where we're going. https://docs.google.com/.../1PcXBC13NUaqwJx7bwi4V.../edit...
Growth is a good problem to have. It means GL is a great community and people want to be a part of it. #proudtobeacomet
