Beagle Achievement, Expanding ASD Certification
So much great stuff from last night's Board Meeting. Every board member was greeted with a book so we can join in the Hayes Intermediate all-school read! Thank you Hayes!
We had an outstanding presentation from our Beagle administration, faculty, and students. Beagle has been increasing academic achievement, shining on the music stage, and making the school welcoming to all through Unified Sports.
After that, Dr. Barnes gave us an update on governance and Board relations as part of his presentations on the areas the board will evaluate in November. We have so much to celebrate, but I am thrilled that we are never satisfied and always striving to improve.
We're growing, and we've gotten lots of questions about school of choice. Given our population, we agreed to open school of choice for kindergarten and 1st grade, but approve on a very limited basis for the older kids once we have a better sense of our class sizes.
We closed out the meeting by approving a letter of agreement that provides tuition reimbursement for teachers seeking an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) certification. This is a win-win-win. Grand Ledge always does well when it comes to hiring, but there is a huge need and a shortage of folks with this certification. Several of our current teachers are eager to get this certification. The District can afford the relatively small cost to "grow our own" teachers with the certification.
As always, I'm #proudtobeacomet
